FAQ

WHAT IS THE MONROE PLAYGROUND FOUNDATION?

The Monroe Playground Foundation is an independent 501c3 charitable organization exclusively dedicated to rebuilding the Kids Kreation Playground located at Wolfe Park.  Our mission is to work with residents, families and the Town of Monroe Government to provide our community with a safe and creative playground environment where families can interact and supervise their children at play and help make it a place where generations can come together and create special memories.

WHY DOES THE CURRENT PLAYGROUND NEED TO BE REBUILT?

Although it’s an incredible structure, the playground in its current form struggles to meet current safety standards and no longer aligns with what parents expect when visiting a playground with their children.  Issues including broken or failing equipment, splintered and rotting boards, and insects, among others.  Without intervention, the current playground will not last much longer.

HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU IN THE PROCESS?

We have our design and we've been fundraising since September of 2018.  In that time we've already raised more than $50,000.

THIS ALL SOUNDS EXPENSIVE, HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU NEED TO RAISE?

You’re right.  Playground equipment is remarkably expensive.   Every option we looked into was well into six figures in cost – even just refurbishing the existing structure.  We’re looking to raise $400,000 for our new design which includes the cost of an extremely accessible poured-in-place surface that will allow kids of all abilities to play together.

WHY DO WE NEED TO RAISE MONEY FOR THIS?  WHY ISN’T THIS SOMETHING THE TOWN PAYS FOR?

The current playground was built in 1992 and was also a community project with all funds and construction completed by community members.  We’re trying to recapture that and build something together that we can all be proud of – a playground worthy of the Town of Monroe.

SO THIS WILL BE A COMMUNITY BUILD?

Yes, the community will be involved in all facets of this project from design, to fundraising, to the build itself.  All of the vendors we’re investigating all have programs where community members can work together to construct the playground.  We’ve also found the community builds save money.

I REALLY LIKE THIS IDEA, HOW CAN I HELP?

Visit our website and register as a volunteer.  We’re looking for donations, people to work fundraisers, and help us get our message out there.  Soon, we’ll also be looking for volunteers to help build the playground.
